Why did you decide to become a Key Club officer?
Back in sophomore year, I spent a great deal of time participating in volunteer events, helping with weekly boba fundraisers (I still remember a disastrous attempt to sell Pink Drinks once... and it didn't turn out well at all). I also got to learn more about Key Club through my friends who worked on the board that year. This is because I met Leanne Ho, who was the Spirit Coordinator at the time. Leanne taught me a lot about Key Club cheers, annual events like Fall Rally and so much more. It was all of these things that made me love the club so much that I really wanted to become a Key Club officer!
How do you manage being a Key Club officer along with being a high school student?
Because most of my terms as an officer coincided with quarantine, it was easier for me to schedule my time and communicate with my club members and those involved in planning collab socials about when I could schedule social events as a Spirit Coordinator last year and when I could plan Key Club reports for the Kiwanis of La Palma as the current Kiwanis Liaison. It was definitely important that I had my schedule organized ahead of time in order to complete all officer work on time.
What is your favorite part about being a Key Club officer?
The most enjoyable part of being a Key Club officer was that I got to make so many new friends and meet so many new people. This was over the 3 years I have been in Key Club. You always get to meet so many friendly, welcoming people at other Key Clubs in D30S and from volunteer events alone! In Key Club, I remember working an afternoon shift at the Orange County Fair with other clubs and divisions. I was paired up with a girl from Los Amigos High School, something that initially disappointed me since I wanted to be together with my two officer friends instead. Although she was a stranger to me, we had a great time working together. After finishing our shift, we were able to wander around the Orange County Fair and she bought food for the both of us! It was experiences like that that motivated me to spread kindness and serve my community as a Key Club officer.

Why did you join Key Club?
I joined primarily because of Harvey, and I knew of a few of the members so I thought it would’ve been cool to tag along a few meetings and events.
How have you changed since you became a member?
I got to meet new people, so I became more comfortable with the community as a whole :D
