Why did you join Key Club?

I joined Key Club because of its community interaction. I noticed how involved Key Club was and wanted to be a part of that. To be a part of a club that gives back to its community. Key Club radiates positivity and joy and I looked forward to joining and being a part of a community so welcoming.

How have you changed since you became a member?

I have changed since I became a member by focusing on giving back. Before joining this club I felt a little consumed by academics and not in giving much time to my community. Through Key Club I have been able to also prioritize making my community a brighter place.

Fun fact about yourself?

A fun fact about myself is that I crochet. My first project was a blanket and my second was a bonnet.

Why did you decide to become a Key Club officer?

I decided to become a Key Club officer because as a freshman, I was very new to the school and my entire experience at Kennedy had been online. I wanted to find ways to get more involved and get to know some of my peers. I had been a member of Key Club for a few months and had always found the board to be very comfortable with each other, so once I heard applications for the 2021-2022 board were open, I knew I had to apply.

How do you manage being a Key Club officer along with being a high school student?

Managing being a Key Club officer on top of academics and other extracurricular has never been an issue because my workload at Key Club is very manageable. Usually, I am notified of my duties a couple of days in advance to allow optimal time to execute them to the best of my abilities, and I've never felt overwhelmed with the number of projects I was given as an officer.

What is your favorite part about being a Key Club officer?

My favorite part of being a Key Club officer is definitely communicating with the other officers and members. I feel that the people are really what make or break a club, and the people in Key Club are all so lovely. They've been very welcoming to me and ensured that I felt comfortable asking questions and getting familiar with my position.

Senior- Class of 2022

Why did you decide to become a Key Club officer?

I originally decided to become a Key Club officer to have a larger role in Key Club and be able to express some sort of creativity and passion that I had for the club, but I decided to reapply for my second term because of how much more I learned to love the club because of its family dynamic and the fun activities that we had, despite the previous term being all online.

How do you manage being a Key Club officer along with being a high school student?

I manage being a Key Club Officer with being a high school student by utilizing planners and calendars with my family and classmates to prevent overlapping meeting times. Plus, a lot of the time doing club work is a way for me to "productively procrastinate" on my other work for school, so it gives me something to work on while taking a break from school.

What is your favorite part about being a Key Club officer?

My favorite part about being a Key Club officer is being able to express some kind of creativity, even if it is not the traditional idea of art being an activity like drawing, through creating events, photography (hopefully more when we get back in person), and working on the club wixsite. In addition, the board is always so supportive and a place that I can go to if I ever need help with anything.

Why did you decide to become a Key Club officer?

Originally I didn't intend on being a Key Club officer my freshman year, actually! I was too nervous, and I had also missed the deadline. The President then, who knew me from being in Walker's Builder's Club, gave me a lucky opportunity to assist on a new~ grant project! I took the chance, :D and I'm so glad I did because I've been able to make so many of my current friends from Key Club!

How do you manage being a Key Club officer along with being a high school student?

On most days, when I'm mentally sound, I like to view my club work as something fun and something I would genuinely enjoy doing. Good scheduling is crucial too (Google Calendar, Notion, Planners)! Both have helped me a lot, in the long run, to avoid burnout as I'm balancing my IB work!

What is your favorite part about being a Key Club officer?

My favorite part about being a Key Club officer is the board I am grateful to work with. Everyone is so sweet and the connections I make each year really brightens my week—this also includes outside the home club (like our Division)!

I became an officer because I've always wanted to look for a leadership role in Key Club. However, the actual incentive came from another officer who encouraged me personally to apply!

How do you manage being a Key Club officer along with being a high school student?

Being a Key Club officer doesn't interfere with my high school life aside from small time intervals. As long as I keep track of my assignments and duties for each class/extracurricular, there is plenty of time for me to work, especially since the board divides work so evenly across themselves.

What is your favorite part about being a Key Club officer?

My favorite part of being a Key Club officer is the level of involvement I can reach with both upperclassmen and underclassmen. It makes me feel as if I can help out anywhere while enjoying myself with friends. Everyone is so kind and passionate about service, which is honestly contagious!

Why did you join Key Club?

I first heard of Key Club from my aunt who was a member in her home state, Hawaii. She talked you guys up so much I just had to see what Key Club was all about. The club has really aligned with the image I had in my head by being as inclusive, active, and creatively unique as it could be.

How have you changed since you became a member?

Before school started back up again, I disliked the idea of joining clubs because that meant that I had to get out of my little introvert shell. But I convinced myself that it would be a great opportunity to meet people and get the experience in my community that I needed. I went to my first volunteer event for Key Club so nervous, but everyone was so welcoming and enthusiastic. I have continued to go to more volunteer events after that experience. I’ve definitely changed in my communicative skills and the ability to be more involved thanks to Key Club and it’s members.

It was challenging at first to find a balance between being a Key Club officer and being a high school student, but as I became more accustomed to being an officer, I learned several skills that helped me manage my time for both responsibilities. I discovered that the
best approach for me to balance officer and student duties was to have a checklist for the week and use a calendar to keep track of my workload.

My favorite thing about being a Key Club officer is certainly the friendships that are formed throughout the year. Being an officer allowed me to reach beyond my comfort zone and find new people that share the same passions as me. I was able to find new friends from
different divisions and within our division including learning new skills with them. Key Club is such a vast organization that you can make friends from all over the country if you wanted to, and that is why I love being an officer so much.
